Have your nails, hair and other pampering appointments completed 24 hours PRIOR to your session. We protect your nails with a barrier to ensure your tan and nails are on point!
24 hours prior to your session be sure to shower, shave and exfoliate with a mitt or glove. Moisturize heavily this day, more so than you typically do, paying particular attention to the shins, elbows, ankles and wrists. Please do not use any Dove Soap or Dove Shampoo products before or with a spray tan.
The morning of your appointment, you should take a very quick shower and do a very light exfoliation with the glove or mitt WITH WATER ONLY to make sure you removed all residue of products used the day before. This should be done at least 3 hours prior to your appointment.
Arrive at the appointment with long loose dark clothing and slip on shoes. No makeup, jewelry or deodorant. The solution requires a minimum of 2 hours on the skin to a maximum of 8 hours (or overnight for convenience sake). Do not sweat or get wet during this time. (Wearing yoga pants, skinny jeans and tight fitting clothing after your session will reduce tanning results. Plan your post session activities accordingly to avoid sweating, rain drops or factors that could compromise tanning results.)
Always keep long, covering clothing handy in case of rainy weather and a towel to cover your car seat.
How do I care for my Bronze?
Moisturize! Use natural lotions (i.e. Shea or Coco butters, Hempz, etc.) to truly nourish your skin and maximize results.
Avoid hot showers, hot tubs and exfoliating; minimize the time in chlorine and salt water*. *Rinsing with fresh water as soon as possible after exiting chlorine or salt water is highly recommended to preserve natural oils and remove chemicals that can reduce the life of your tan.
PAT dry.
Use lotion sunscreens, like Sun Bum or White Girl to protect and moisturize your skin.
Use a new razor to reduce loss of tan when shaving.
Wash with gentle, sulfate free soaps to prevent stripping of the color from your skin.
Use tan extender lotions to replenish color and get the most out of your sunless tan.
DRINK WATER! This may seem unrelated, but truly getting enough H2O keeps your skin, hair and so much more in great shape- which keeps your sunless results lasting and looking better!
Tanning Tips and Facts
♥ Products matter! What you use on your skin is important and can make or break your tanning experience. Harsh detergents and other ingredients in soaps alter the pH of your skin and strip natural, healthy oils from the protective barrier. Using gentle, naturally moisturizing soaps that remove dirt build up, but leave your needed oils allows your skin to glow, promotes a longer tan life and helps avoid brassy, orange hues.
♥ UV tanning. Along with the known skin cancer and aging risks, this method of tanning exasperates hydration in the lower levels of skin, giving you a temporary healthy feeling, but ultimately leaving you with extremely dry skin. By depleting moisture from the lower levels of cells, the skin becomes flaky, cracked and wrinkled. Simply put, it's not worth it! Spray tanning contains ingredients that help your skin look and feel hydrated, firmed and refreshed without damaging it for years to come.
♥ The magic number is 24 ☺ 24 hours Before tanning, giving a good exfoliating and moisturizing to your skin promotes the deepest color and longest lasting results. Post tanning, the Dihydroxyacetone(DHA) takes 24 hours to fully react with the amino acids in your skin and develop into the desired Bronze color we love!
♥ Truly moisturizing your skin with the highest quality ingredients is essential to sunless tanning. Dry skin flakes, sluffs off faster and unevenly and can through a brassy color regardless of how fare or melanin infused you are. The best time to apply moisturizers is within a minute of getting out of the shower.
♥ SPF- no sunless tan offers any UV protection, so SPF and other sun safe practices should be used to keep your skin healthy. Don't forget to reapply sunscreen at least every 2 hours!
♥ Powder can reduce rubbing. Even after your soap shower, we recommend using some powder on feet, around bra areas and anywhere clothing might be tight and rub. Powder helps absorb excess moisture, like sweat, that can cause your skin cells to lift which results in a loss of tan in certain areas.
♥ Products matter! Yes, we know this is on here twice, but it's so important it deserves extra attention! After care tanning products like tanning extender lotions and mists replenish color lost from shaving, harsh environments, like pools and the ocean, and natural cell turnover (like your face!).
